While most bluesy hard rock acts of the ‘70s and ‘80s were of U.S. origin, there were a few exceptions such as Canadian rocker, Pat Travers. Travers first picked up the guitar as a pre-teen after being greatly influenced by Jimi Hendrix. Feeling inspired, Travers soon hit the Quebec music scene, playing in bar bands.

Traver’s first big break was when he toured with ‘50s rocker Ronnie Hawkins who is best known for performing with a group that would later be known as The Band. Feeling like he needed to go back to his rocker roots, Traver’s packed up and headed to London where he recorded a demo that would land him a record deal and kick off his debut in the beginning of 1976. In 1979, Travers formed his band lineup and went to the U.S. where his success heightened and continued.

Featuring drummer Tommy Aldridge, guitarist Pat Thrall, and bassist Mars Cowling, the new Travers band lineup premiered on 1979’s Heat in the Street. This led to Travers’ most commercially successful period, resulting in a pair of Top 30 releases, 1979’s Live! Go for What You Know (considered by many Travers fans to be his finest hour) and 1980’s Crash and Burn.

Since the critically acclaimed 1976 debut album featuring his own brand of high quality seventies guitar rock and roll, Pat Travers has gone on to deliver melodic eighties rock, a blues period throughout most of the nineties, noted performances with various power trio’s during the first few years of the new Millennium, and a full blooded return to the trademark Pat Travers Band sound as he entered his fifth performing and recording decade.
