Police Seek Suspect Who Pulled 'Overstock TV' Scam at Sears

Natick police are looking for someone they say enticed a victim to buy a 'discounted TV.' The scam has happened at several Sears.

The scam has popped up at Sears stores throughout the Northeast, say authorities, and this week, a person became the victim at a Natick store.

On Sept. 5, a person was enticed to Sears for the purchase of what he thought was a discounted, overstock flatscreen TV. The person met the suspect in the parking lot, provided a large sum of money, and then was given a “receipt.”

The victim made his way to the merchandise pickup, where he quickly realized he had been had. He noticed Sears security, but the person, and his money, were nowhere to be found.

These “runners,” say police, change frequently, which makes their identification difficult.

The suspect, in the photo and video, shows two people of interest, say Natick police. One is an older man who appeared to be showing the suspect the layout of Sears, as well as the suspect himself. The suspect is described as a white male in his 20s, tall and thin. The victim said the suspect had deformed hands.

Natick police are reminding shoppers that Sears does not conduct transactions in the parking lot.
