Red & Blue Celebrates New Years with First Win

Natick comes from behind to defeat Medford.

The Boys Varsity hockey team closed out 2011 in style with a 5 to 4 win against Medford in a thriller Saturday afternoon.  In a game highlighted by momentum, the Red and Blue overcame a 3 to 1 deficit for their first win of the season.  After falling behind 1 to 0, Andrew Watkins scored his first varsity goal to tie the game up.  Medford however took a 2-1 lead into the second period and subsequently made it 3 to 1 just 24 seconds into the second period.  Natick turned it around however after that with second period goals by Tim Dunn and Matt Kustra to tie the game at 3 to 3 heading into the third.  The scoring barrage continued in the third, as Natick capitalized on a few power play opportunities as Dunn scored his second of the game and Derek Butler added the all important fifth goal.  Derek Kwok made many impressive saves in the third period, including many in the final seconds to preserve the win.  Now at 1-2-2, Natick starts the new year coming off a big win.
