Stick with Biological Gender for MA IDs

Biological markers are important identifiers for law enforcement. Citizens must indicate their biological gender, and not X, on state IDs.

Rep. David Linsky (D-Natick) introduced state bill H.3070: “An Act relative to gender identity on Massachusetts identification.” If passed, the law would allow MA drivers to select which gender they identify as: male, female or X (neither). It was previously introduced by Senate President Karen Spilka, following a transgender teen’s confusion about which gender box to check at the RMV.

This is insane. MA drivers must not be permitted to arbitrarily choose, or not choose, biological markers: not gender, height, age, or eye color, because of their psychological ambiguities. Biological gender is not subjective. Transgenders are biologically male or female, regardless of how they identify emotionally.

Biological gender presents an important identifier for law enforcement. It’s also a relevant demographic marker that’s often used for research, including studies regarding gender orientation.

H.3070 will only cause confusion and further delays at the registry when immigrants, the elderly, and the uninformed tie up RMV employees asking questions about the "new box" and what "X" stands for.

It is time for our elected representatives to stop pushing useless legislation to appear woke. This effort is a waste of the taxpayers’ money. There are real issues in this state that need addressing.

Every person should be treated with dignity, kindness, and a reasonable degree of tolerance. However, when an entire state is subjected to new legislation because a teenager is confused, that is not tolerance. That is tyranny.
