STRIVERS Named 1 of Natick's Charitable Organizations-Town to Choose Runners to Represent STRIVERS in 2019 Boston Marathon. DEADLINE 1/3/19

STRIVERS Running Club for Girls has been approved as one of the Town of Natick’s charities to participate in the 2019 Boston Marathon fundraising program.
Natick receives only 22 invitational entries for the Marathon and chosen runners are required to raise funds for a specific Natick-based non-profit organization. “We are honored to be named one of the charities approved by our town,” said Colleen Phelps, STRIVERS founder and USATAF certified coach. “By participating in the Boston Marathon on behalf of STRIVERS, runners will have the opportunity to help us grow our STRIVERS Inc. Scholarship Fund. The Fund was created to help high school students who are as passionate as we are about running as they pursue their college education. Awarding STRIVERSwith Boston Marathon numbers ties directly with our values and what our program aims to teach our young runners about goal setting, building confidence, determination, and having a positive impact on our community.”
According the Phelps, STRIVERS will support the Marathon runners with a training plan, personalized coaching, uniform and training supplies, fundraising assistance, group runs, and the energy and support of current and past participants in the program. Interested runners should contact Colleen Phelps directly at colleenphelps@comcast.netas soon as possible for all the details. The deadline to submit to the town is Thursday, January 3, 2019.

“As a 5-time qualified Boston Marathoner myself, I understand the commitment and dedication it takes to run this race,” remarked Phelps. “By supporting a marathon runner and their training efforts, goals and physical and mental health, we are teaching our young members an invaluable lesson that will make an impression for years to come.”
About STRIVERS Running Club for Girls

STRIVERS Running Club for Girls is a Natick based program established in 2009. The mission of STRIVERS is to develop strong, confident, athletic, and community-loyal young women. This is achieved through the process of training and completing a 5k Road Race within a supportive team environment. To date, over 500 girls have successfully completed our program with 80 percent of our members running an average of three years as a STRIVER.
The STRIVERS program is designed for 5th through 8th grade girls. Members become runners, experience the sense of accomplishment when they successfully complete a 5k, and learn the power that runners can bring to a community when they work together. Since the program’s inception, our girls have donated many service hours and lead numerous community outreach projects from food drives, back-pack collections, and town wide clean ups in an effort to demonstrate the positive impact a group of runners can make on their community.
