Take a dip! The 2017 swimming season has begun.

MASSACHUSETTS—The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) announced on Friday that many waterfronts across the Commonwealth are now open to the public. Starting Saturday, May 27, DCR lifeguards staffed many of the agency’s inland and ocean beaches on weekends, which will continue through the season.

“The Department of Conservation and Recreation has worked diligently to prepare for the tens of thousands of people who will visit the state’s campgrounds, beaches, parks, and reservations this upcoming Memorial Day Weekend,” said DCR Commissioner Leo Roy in a statement. “The Baker-Polito Administration remains committed to providing outdoor recreational opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy as part of a healthy, active lifestyle.”

As part of the waterfronts opening process, water quality testing at designated swimming areas has already begun, said the announcement. Additionally, comfort stations at many of DCR’s beaches will be open for the season.
