Where are the Dirtiest Areas of Natick?

NATICK, MA — A row of attached rubber tires. Plastic plant pots. Diapers. Toys. An old sandwich. A three-legged chair. A light saber (yeah, maybe)? In too many areas of towns and cities, litter is part of the landscape, blowing in the street, or embedded in the brush on the side of the road.

So we ask you, our readers - the residents - where are the most "trashed" areas in Natick? What needs some attention this Earth Day weekend, and beyond?

Our list, in no particular order, based on feedback from readers (refresh this page for updates):

1. Dug Pond (photos 1-5) is one of the most beautiful areas in Natick. Of course I may be bias as it's been my home and back yard on and off since 1960. I live on the "horseshoe" end of Fairview Ave., and the area I'm referring to is the 'horseshoe' end of Lakeview Ave., that accesses the island. Sadly, as with many woodsy areas, it attracts people who just don't care enough to keep it that way. From the kids who visit 'the island' and leave their trash, and sometimes forgotten clothes and beach towels, to the ultra lazy, cheap SOB's who just use the woods to dump. Over the years, my family has cleaned up this small stretch of woodland. My father forces my brothers, sister and me to pitch in, which at the time we didn't understand, and hated having to clean up after others, to present. But it's a never-ending battle. Here are a few shots just taken from my car. The discarded car seat we will end up picking up and put in our special trash pick up. I see this in other wooded areas, South St, Pond Rd in Wellesley, so sadly we are not unique. But this is my home and it's disheartening. — Karen Kinsman
2. Newfield Drive could use a hand. The complexes don't do enough. It is a high traffic area with dog walkers who don't clean up after their dogs and who throw their waste bags in the trees. There are cigarette butts because Natick Village went smoke-free, so they smoke by the sidewalk and of course the many others, including walkers, runners and many commuters. - Karen Edwards
