This is the last of Natick schools to go back this year due to the effects of Hurricane Irene. All other schools in the Natick school District were able to resume classes on their scheduled first day of school, which was Aug. 31.
Kennedy, however, made the announcement at 8 p.m. on Aug. 30, that school would not start until Sept. 1, with the idea they would have power back by then. Even without power, the school kept its word.

Principal Rosemary Vickery said "the first day of school is always crazy, this year we may have almost no power, but we are still here. ... The kids will have a great day no matter what, and they will remember this particular first day of school for years."
"I have complete faith in the principal," said Fran Visconti, whose daughter is just entering her first year at Kennedy, "she [Principal Vickery] is well organized and everything will be just fine, it will be an adventure, something memorable for my daughter's first day of Middle School," Visconti continued.
