Water Ban During Treatment Plant Repairs

During a repair of the water treatment plant, residents will be under a mandatory outdoor use water ban.

NATICK, MA—Natick residents will be under a no outdoor water ban for up to two weeks while necessary repairs and updates are made to the Springvale Water Treatment Plant.

This week, the staff at the plant discovered a filter failure in one of the 16 filter cells of the Tonka Water Filter units. Staff immediately removed the cell from service and diagnosed the issue, and found that brackets suspending the troughs holding the filter media in the cell had failed.

Immediate repairs of the cell will be made, and the brackets on all the others replaced.

During installation it will be necessary to take the balance of the filter cells out of service a few at a time.

Therefore, it was necessary to request approval from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection to operate the drinking water supply wells located at Elm Bank outside of normal permit requirements to ensure adequate water supply.

MassDEP has approved the request and has issued an Emergency Declaration that requires a town wide ban on outside water use. The ban will be in effect for the duration of the repairs, which will be completed within two weeks.
