NEEDHAM, MA — The Needham Police Department has developed an "At Risk Residents” binder to "better serve individuals who may need a more personalized approach during interactions."

The department explained the binder in a social media post that described an older man seeking help taking care of his wife, who was beginning to show signs of Alzheimer's disease.

"One of the ways we strive to support our residents is through our in-house 'At Risk Residents' binder, according to the post. "This resource is designed to help our officers and dispatchers better serve individuals who may need a more personalized approach during interactions."

Calls are entered in the binder so responding officers and dispatchers are aware of such situations.

"The binder includes important information such as emergency contact details, medical considerations, preferred communication methods, and other unique factors that can make all the difference in a moment of need," the post said. "Whether it’s someone who is nonverbal and uses a communication device, or a resident who may be prone to wandering, having this information readily available allows us to respond with understanding, compassion, and care."
