10-year-old Stroke Survivor Overcoming Physical Challenges In Newton
Burt Wu suffered a life-altering stroke as a baby.

NEWTON, MA â A young resident has made an impressive comeback after suffering a debilitating medical event at a young age.
Burt Wu, 10, suffered a stroke before birth. After that, Wuâs doctors were unsure the extent that he would physically recover. Wuâs mother, Jordyne, exercised as many physical therapy options as possible to ensure her son could recover as much as possible. As a result, Wu learned to walk and could participate in his favorite sports and physical activities such as tennis, soccer, and skiing. However, Wu still felt he was not able to fully keep up with his peers on the level he wanted. Leg braces reportedly still limited his movement.
Earlier this year, Wu started acupuncture and his Physical Therapist Jenna Raheb introduced Wu to a new device that goes around the knee due to her officeâs adaptive equipment clinic. Wu testified that the Bioness device has increased not only his mobility, balance, and ability to participate in sports, but improved his quality of life overall in the last five months.
