Alleged Fraud, Shoplifting, Car Break-ins: Newton's Week in Crime

Tuesday, July 12
⢠Officers responded to Waltham Street for a report of a past breaking and entering to a motor vehicle. The caller reported he left his home at approximately 12 p.m. and returned home at 8 p.m. to find his Hondo broken into and the contents of his glove box scattered about the front seat of his car. The items reportedly stolen were an alto saxophone, green Jansport backpack and a black North Face backpack.

⢠Police responded to Intermix at 33 Boylston St. for a report of a past credit card fraud. A man called the store claiming that his credit card was flagged for fraudulent activity at the store. After investigating the report, employees determined that approximately one hour before receiving the man's call a woman reportedly entered the store and purchased three separate items using fraudulent or stolen credit cards. The suspect is described as a black female in her early twenties, approximately 5 foot 5 inches tall, thin with a short "bob" style haircut and wearing black sunglasses, black long sleeve top, blue jeans, sneakers and carrying a black purse.
⢠A past breaking and entering of a motor vehicle was reported on Auburn Street. The caller said he came out to his vehicle that morning and noticed items missing from his car. The items were a Dewalt toolbox with miscellaneous tools and two Dewalt power screwdrivers. The man said he heard suspicious noises in his front yard the previous night around 11:45 p.m. and his vehicle was left unlocked.

Wednesday, July 13
⢠A vandalized vehicle was reported on Wyman Street. The caller said the vehicle was vandalized between 1 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. that morning. The car was parked in the back parking lot and there was a variety of colored nail polish over the windshield, hood and top of the car. There was also maple syrup, cream and a substance resembling talcum powder. The rear left tire was also punctured.
⢠Two alleged shoplifters were in custody at National Jean Co. at 34 Langley Rd. Police arrested the suspects, Jennifer Delgrande, 21, and Katherine Albon, 20, both of Newton and charged them with larceny over $250 and receiving stolen property over $250.
⢠A Washington Street woman called police to report a fraud. She stated that she was looking for employment and posted her resume on Craigslist. On July 5 she received a call from a man asking her to a be a personal assistant. The job required her to run errands and buy items for him using his funds that would be deposited into the woman's personal bank account. On July 8 the personal check was mailed, deposited on July 9 and cleared on July 12, the woman told police. On July 12, the man reportedly asked her to send money to a friend via MoneyGram, which she reportedly did at a CVS. She then was asked to send money to another friend, but that request was denied by MoneyGram due to "suspicious activity." The man then reportedly told her to use a Western Union, where the transaction was also declined. She then completed the transaction as a TD Bank to an unknown account. When she attempted to pay for her meal at Bertucci's restaurant, her credit card was declined; the bank reportedly told her the suspect's check that she deposited was fraudulent.
Thursday, July 14
⢠Police responded to Galen Street in Watertown for a reported motor vehicle accident that occurred in Newton. Watertown Police told officers they were flagged down by a man saying a white van in front of him had struck his vehicle in Newton and the driver assaulted him. Watertown Police were able to stop the van until a Newton officer arrived. Both drivers were told a show cause hearing in Newton District Court would be requested to charge them with assault and battery.
⢠A man told police his blue garbage bin at the corner of his driveway on Olde Field Road was missing after he accidentally left it there following trash pickup.
