John M. Barry Boys & Girls Club of Newton hosted former New England Patriots “snow ball” hero and popular 98.5 The Sports Hub radio personality at its 57th Annual Meeting.
Unlike your typical meeting, the Club opted to liven this year’s event with performances by Club kids including songs by Madison Quinn and Sasha Espady and the comedic stylings of Delaney Bates. Joe Amorosino, 7NEWS Sports Director, introduced former Patriots tight-end, Jermaine Wiggins, as the special guest speaker. Jermaine tackled many issues youth face and motivated the crowd to dream big.

Attributing much of his success to the Salesian Boys & Girls Club of East Boston, Jermaine went on to say, “When I look in the mirror, I see you. And when you look in the mirror, you can see me.” Inspiring many of the youth in attendance, he encouraged them to pursue any goal no matter how grand, as he never imagined such things were possible for his self. He stressed making good decisions, surrounding oneself with positive role models and staying involved in programs such as those offered by the Club.
Over 100 people including Board members, donors, parents and supporters of the Club were in attendance. The nomination of slate was made, and Kathleen Tennerman was welcomed as a new member to the Board of Directors. Pat Proia was selected as the recipient of the President’s Award after serving the Club for over 50 years, and a special announcement about being recently selected for the Boston Athletic Association’s (B. A. A.) Official Charity Program was also made.

David Sellers, Jr., Executive Director of the Club was most grateful for Jermaine’s participation, “Having a celebrity role model that can truly speak to the kids and interact with them is so meaningful and sure to bring positive results. Jermaine is a product of the Boys & Girls Clubs, and as much as we appreciate his efforts, it clearly shows he appreciates ours.”
