NEWTON, Mass. (August 7, 2023)The West Suburban YMCA, a nonprofit focused on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility in Newton and surrounding communities, held the annual Preston Settles 3v3 Basketball Tournament on August 3, 2023, at its Wells Ave location.

More than 20 teams comprised of teens and young adults participated in the basketball
tournament to celebrate and honor the life of Preston Settles. Preston was a beloved Newton
teen who suffered a tragic collapse in 2022 during a high school basketball game. Preston’s love for life set an example for others to live a life with “no bad days”. The Preston Settles 3v3
Tournament is organized each year by his friends and family to celebrate his life and to raise
awareness for Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.

“Preston Settles embraced all that he did with positivity and perseverance and impacted so many
people in our community,” said Jack Fucci, President and CEO of the West Suburban YMCA.
“We are honored to play a part in celebrating his memory by hosting this year’s tournament at
our new Wells Ave Y.” The tournament was a celebratory event including “No Bad Days” team
shirts, food, music, and prizes. All funds were donated to the Preston Settles Memorial Fund. The Preston Settles Memorial Fund was established to support and fund accelerating discovery
and care for people with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, and to otherwise support charitable activities in Preston’s memory. The Preston Settles Memorial Fund is organized through The Boston Foundation, Inc.
