Arrest for OUI, Bloomingdales Larceny: Newton Police

NEWTON, MA - The following are excerpts from the Newton police log.
Dec. 5
- Police took a report of larceny from a residence at Burnham Road. The complainant said that sometime over the past week someone had ripped a plaque off the brick wall on the property.
- At 5:49 p.m., police responded to 225 Boylston St. (Bloomingdales) for a report of shoplifting. Loss prevention was watching security cameras when they spotted a white female attempting to steal merchandise from the store by placing it in her purse. The two confronted the shoplifter who was later identified. In her possession was more than $1,200 in stolen merchandise, including three purses and four handbags. LP issued a no trespass order. A woman, 56, from Lexington, was charged with larceny over $250.

- Police reported that on Dec. 5 around 10:35 a.m. an officer was on patrol in area of Crafts Street. The officer traveled southbound and observed a white sedan that had partially entered the roadway. Approximately half the sedan was in the roadway and the other was in the driveway at Crafts Street. The officer thought the car was trying to get on to the street, so the officer stopped to let the car go. The vehicle didnât move. The headlights were on and the car was running. The officer got closer to the car and noticed two men in the car. Each were slumped down in their car seats - their heads slumped forward. It looked like they were asleep. The officer checked on the well being of the two people in the car. As he got closer, the driver picked up his head and started to drive way. The officer took a right onto Crafts Street, heading toward Washington Street. The officer attempted to catch up to the vehicle. He stopped the vehicle. As the officer spoke to the operator he detected a moderate odor of alcoholic beverage. The officer said he had glassy eyes. Carlos Caceda, 36, 167 Hamilton St. Dorchester, was arrested and charged with failure to use a signal, OUI liquor.
