Boston Celtics Honor Newton Resident As 'Hero Among Us'
Jake Kornmehl has raised more than $35,000 for local youth organizations and food pantries.

NEWTON, MA — The Boston Celtics recently honored Newton resident Jake Kornmehl for his efforts to raise money to help fight food inequity and insecurity across the state.
Kornmehl began his efforts in 2018 with a focus on youth organizations and broadened its scope during the COVID-19 health crisis in 2020. He raised more than $35,000 for organizations across Greater Boston and began his own nonprofit, Ice Cream Sunday.
For his dedication to supporting families in need and advocating for food equity, Kornmehl was honored as a Hero Among Us during the Boston Celtics' home game against the Utah Jazz on January 5, 2024.

Since its establishment in 1997, the Celtics' Heroes Among Us program has recognized outstanding individuals who have made exceptional and lasting contributions to their communities.
The award is presented at every Celtics home game and pays tribute to the heroic achievements of these outstanding citizens.
