Boston Marathon 2016: Road Closures in Newton

Be aware of these closures, parking restrictions and security measures during the run.

NEWTON, MA - This year's Boston Marathon will be held Monday, April 18 and the route will take runners through Newton along Washington Street to Commonwealth Avenue to the Boston line.

Here's a look at what time roads along the route will be closing, according to the city website:

Washington Street

  • 8:30am, from the Wellesley line to Beacon Street.
  • 8:00am, from Beacon Street to Commonwealth Avenue

Commonwealth Avenue

  • 8:00am, from Washington Street to the Boston line

Residents of Homer Street and Walnut Street

Residents who live on Homer Street between Commonwealth Ave and Walnut Street, Walnut Street between Commonwealth Ave and Homer Street, Cummings Road and North Street should be advised that this will be a Police Security Zone and therefore will be open to residents of these streets only from 8am – 6pm.

Parking

Restrictions will be in place along the Marathon route on Commonwealth Ave - Carriage lanes and portions of streets that feed into the Marathon route.

Contractors and Homeowners

No work is allowed on Monday, April 18, 2016 if the property is located on the marathon route.

Security

All bags and coolers are subject to be searched by the police.
