Central Cubs Defeat West Cubs - Newton Central Little League

During the spring little league season we are posting articles written by young Newton sports writers. This story was written by Jaden Farquhar, grade 5 at Peirce school.
In a game that was almost lost to the weather, the Central Cubs started off strong in this game. In the top of the 1st Inning, John Shore hit a single just past the 1st Baseman. Andrew Haas then hammered an explosive line drive double to left field, leading to the Central Cubs first run. After advancing to third base, Mathew Gluck hit a pop up to the 1st Baseman enabling the runner at 3rd base to tag up and score. The Central Cubs took a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the 1st Inning, with two outs Hannah Fitzgerald singled to right field but was left stranded on base. The West Cubs received great pitching from Justin Butera in the first half of the game. Throughout the 2nd Inning, the score remained 2-0 Central Cubs. In the top of the 2nd Inning, the Central Cubs went 3 up, 3 down. The West Cubs made three solid defensive plays, and really demonstrated great technique.

Central Cubs Takeoff
Both teams really let their instincts kick in this Inning! In the top of the 3rd Inning, Alex Ring started off the rally with a line drive single. He then advanced to 2nd base on a passed ball. After that, Cole Cleary doubled driving in a run. Next, once again Mathew Gluck drove in a run making the score 4-0.

In the bottom of the 3rd inning, West Cubs Mathew Cox singled, advanced to 2nd base on a passed ball, and then eventually scored, after Hannah Fitzgerald singled making the score 4-1.
The 4th Inning started off with a single by Central Cubs Daniel Belkind. Following a fielder’s choice, Lukas Hanenberger reached safely at 1st Base, and eventually reached 3rd Base. Ben Sachs drove in the Central Cubs 5th run with a ground out to 2nd Base.
In the 5th Inning the Central Cubs added a run making the score 6-1. In the bottom of the 5th Inning the West Cubs attempted to roar back with leadoff singles from Kevin Eswara and Hannah Fitzgerald. The Central Cubs were able to escape the Inning with only 1 run scoring making the score 6-2.
In the top of the 6th Inning the Central Cubs were able to scratch another run making the score 7-2. In the bottom of the 6th Inning, following a strike out, the West Cubs got a single from Gina Lombard. The Central Cubs quickly stifled the West Cubs rally by pulling off an impressive double play from pitcher Andrew Haas, to Reese Farquhar at Shortstop to Lukas Hannenberger at 1st Base. The final score was 7-2 Central Cubs. And that ended the thrilling showdown between the Central Cubs and the West Cubs.
