Royals Lose Third Straight

Newton Royals game recap June 20, 2013

The Newton Royals took on the Medford Titans Thursday night in Waltham looking to bounce back after two straight losses.  The Royals sent Justin Chere to the hill coming off a fantastic start earlier this month against the Brewers.  The Titans countered with Pat Noble.

In the top of the third inning, the Royals struck for three runs to take an early lead.  With the bases loaded and one out, Catcher Nate Coolidge grounded into a fielders choice scoring the first run.  On the same play, a throwing error allowed the second run to score.  After Shortstop Jeremy Hartman singled, Coolidge would come around to score on a throwing error by Titans Catcher Matt Boleski as Hartman stole second base.

Chere was perfect through three innings of work, but the Titans bats came alive in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Two hits and a walk loaded the bases for the Titans when Phil Costello grounded into an RBI fielder's choice and on the play, an errant throw by Hartman allowed another run to score.  Allen Hatfield added an RBI single tying the game.

The game remained tied until the bottom of the sixth when Noble, helping his own cause, singled in the go ahead run putting the Titans on top for good.  The Royals have now lost three straight and will look to stop the bleeding when they take on division rival the Boston Cubs Sunday June 23 at Brandeis University in Waltham.
