Waban resident Ed Morata (Managing Director of Corporate Banking of Sovereign│Santander) played a pivotal role in the Boston Pops 32nd Annual "Presidents at Pops" fundraiser on May 30th, as a Co-Chair of the event committee alongside Ryan E. Hutchins (Senior Vice President, Regional Manager of Gilbane Building Company).

With Mr. Morata's generosity and guidance, the “Presidents at Pops” concert raised more than $820,000 to help support the BSO's Education and Community Engagement programs that contribute to the vitality and quality of life in the Greater Boston area. Launched in 1982, “Presidents at Pops” – one of the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s most important annual fundraising events – is widely acclaimed as one of the largest and most successful corporate benefits for the arts in the United States. Combined with its sister event “A Company Christmas at Pops,” “Presidents at Pops” has raised more than $47 million over the past 30 years.

Comedian and Broadway performer Jason Alexander was the featured guest artist during the May 30th concert. Mr. Alexander sang music from Broadway including “Magic to Do” and “Corner of the Sky” from Pippin, the musical that first inspired Mr. Alexander’s interest in the world of musical theater. His comic side delighted audiences during a performance of “Shiksa Goddess,” and a collection of humorous and intentionally ill-suited songs called “Inappropriate Medley.”

Additionally, in honor of all the first responders who helped those in need during the tragic events of April 15, the Boston Pops invited Dr. Natalie Stavas, a resident at Boston Children’s Hospital, to help bring the program to an end by guest conducting the Boston Pops in the orchestra’s signature piece “Stars and Stripes.” On April 15, while finishing the Boston Marathon on a broken foot, Dr. Stavas provided extraordinary medical care at the scene of the Boylston Street explosions.

The May 30th concert also featured several of Boston’s most prominent corporate leaders on stage in a tribute to Mayor Menino, singing a special rendition of Cole Porter’s “You’re the Top,”with new lyrics written especially for this occasion honoring Boston’s longest-serving mayor.
