Wednesday evening summer walks in Hammond Woods

Charles Hansen will again lead Wednesday evening summer walks in Hammond Woods – the conservation areas in Chestnut Hill. There will be a rotation of three loops, each just over two miles long.

Charles Hansen will again lead Wednesday evening summer walks in Hammond Woods – his term for the combined conservation areas in Chestnut Hill.  There will be a rotation of three loops, each with a different starting location – south, west and north - and all will be just over two miles in length.  Although there is common ground among all three, each route includes some trails specific to that area.  Maps marked with the trails used will be supplied for each event.  A basic map of these areas can be found here:

The walks are expected to take about an hour and a half, or perhaps a bit longer based on the group.  These will take place every week June through August, with the exception of July 17th.  Please wear suitable shoes – there are roots, rocks, and some short, steep stretches – and bring water, especially on very hot days.
Due to limited daylight, the walks will start promptly; 6:45 in June, 6:30 in July, 6:15 in August.

Please note:  All ages are invited, but you need to be capable of walking this distance at a pace of 1.5 – 2 miles an hour.  Since slow walkers delay the entire group, they will be asked to return to the start on their own.
