Busted: 2 Newton Adults To Court For Allowing Minors To Drink At Massive Party

A massive party that allegedly included underage drinking was bused and other Newton Police Logs between Sept. 19 and Sept. 24.

Tuesday, Sept. 19

Get that renewed: Irving D. Garcia, 32, of Lawrence was arrested for driving on a suspended license and expired inspection sticker.

Keyhole mystery: An officer was dispatched to Newtonville Ave. for a report of a past car break... A woman showed police that her driver’s side door keyhole had been damaged to the point where her keys could no longer worked in the lock. The car was not entered and it did not appear to be an attempted car break.

Bike Stolen: I was dispatched to Pearl Street for a report of a stolen bicycle. stated that her bicycle was stolen from her back porch between 6:30 a.m. and 10:00 p.m.

Wednesday, Sept. 20

Stolen and Broken: A Gorden Terrace resident called police to report that her bike, which she locked up to one of the spindles on the railing outside the front door of her apartment on the porch was stolen. The spindle was completely broken off the railing where the bicycle was locked.

Shed violated in mystery message: A Carelton Street resident called to report someone had come into his unlocked shed and moved items from the shed and placed them in his driveway. He told police when he was putting the stuff back in the shed he noticed two bicycles were missing. He called back a bit later to report he found the bicycles two doors down on the sidewalk.

Thursday, Sept. 21

Joy riding: Someone called to report the Hamilton House playground on Grove street had evidence by way of tire marks in the field that a car made several passes around the field and tore up various parts of the grass.

Underage drinking at massive party: Someone called to report a loud party on Cypress Street around 10:20 p.m. When police arrived they saw about 45 kids on the deck and to the side of the home and then when the kids saw police they began to scatter. Police said they saw about 60 more kids run out of the front door and take off through the woods and behind nearby homes. Some jumped into cars, which were packed with kids. "Several kids also jumped off the back of the deck which is about 7 feet off the ground and took
off on foot..." according to an email from police. The responding officers walked to the deck and smelled what they described as a strong odor of alcoholic beverages, and the deck appeared to have alcohol spilled all over it. They saw a number of red solo cups and bud light cans littered around the yard and deck and an empty (30 pack) of Bud Light. Inside the home they saw more kids and more alcohol. The owner of the home greeted police and told them it was her daughter's party. Police said because of the number of kids present at the party and the amount of alcohol throughout the house they were summonsing the owners of the home, two Adult Newton residents to a hearing charging them with Selling or Furnishing Alcohol to a Person Under 21. Police did not specify how old the "kids" were.

Friday, Sept. 22

Car break in tips off shoplifter: Someone reported a van that was broken into while it was parked in the Jimmy Johns lot on Needham Street. A witness told police they saw a man open the rear hatch of a van, look inside and then close it. They reported the man, described as black, in his 50s, with a beard and a back pack was headed to the McDonalds. Police stopped a man matching that description nearby and after a search found three new wallets in his backpack with the tags still on. An officer stopped by the Marshalls nearby and check the security footage. In it, police said they saw the man walking in with a back pack and wearing a gold watch. In the video he put the pack pack near the front and go to the area where the wallets are on display and then leave without going through the register line. Police went to the spot in the store where the man spent his time and found three empty wallet boxes on the display shelf. Police also checked the security footage of the TJ Maxx and saw images of the suspect go into the store with no watch on his wrist, and no backpack. Police said he left the store without paying for the watch, according to the video.

Police arrested William Anthony Nelson, 52, of Dorchester for two counts of shoplifting and one count of breaking into a car.

Saturday, Sept. 23

Vandal: Someone reported that a car was vandalized while it was parked in the Newton Community Center parking lot on Waltham Street.

Sunday, Sept. 24

Drunk Driving smashes car: At 3 a.m. someone reported a car crash on Waltham Street. Police found a Toyota Camry, with heavy front end damage facing Southbound on Waltham Street. The driver told police that a Toyota Scion, was driving Northbound and had crossed the marked lanes and crashed into the front of his car. The driver of the Scion, Caroline N Mulumba, 31, of Waltham, was arrested and charged with drinking and driving and for marked lanes violation.

Destroyed Piano? A concerned citizen approached an officer patroling the area of Newton Centre to report that the piano that had been on the Commons for an art installation had been destroyed.
