Car Break-Ins And A Man Pees On A Cell Floor: Newton Police Logs

A sample of the calls the Newton Police responded to between Wednesday, Nov. 29 and Wednesday, Dec. 6.

NEWTON, MA — Every week the Newton Police department respond to a number of calls from folks in the city. Here's a sample of them from Wednesday Nov. 29 through Wednesday Dec. 6. Some come from the public online log, others come from redacted police arrest report narratives. Just because someone reports an incident does not mean that's the way it happened.

Wednesday, November 29

Break in happening: Someone on Parker Street called to report a home was being broken into at 4:28 a.m.

Shoplifting: Someone reported a larceny at the Bloomingdale's men's store and later someone else reported a larceny at the Upper Falls Liquor shop.

Stolen: Someone reported an item stolen on Old Farm Road.

Thursday, November 30

Break in: Someone called just after 9 a.m. to report there had been a break in at the Boathouse at Nahanton Park on Nahanton Street.

Happening now: A Grove Street resident called to report someone was breaking into their home at 10:58 a.m.

Assault: Someone reported there was an assault at or near the Capasso Realty Corporation on Lexington Street.

Lock Your Car: At 7:53 a.m. someone called to report something from their car was stolen while it was parked Old England Road. Just after 1 p.m. someone else called to report something was taken from their car while it was parked at the Chestnut Hill Mall in front of Besito.

Shoplifting: Modells called to report a shoplifter sometime after 8 p.m.

Friday, Dec. 1

Drunk Driving: Police arrested Hung S. Moon, 55, of East Lexington, for drunk driving (3rd offense) on Walnut Street at 5:28 p.m. after police responded to a report of two cars involved in a crash there. Police found a white pickup truck facing Northbound on Walnut Street with major front end damage and a black suv facing Westbound with major left front end damage.

Vandals: Someone reported vandalism on Blake Street sometime a little after 10 p.m.

Harassment: Someone at the Newton Senior Center reported harassment.

Saturday, Dec. 2

Warrant: Police arrested Brian Joyce, 23, of Dorchester at 8:40 p.m. on a warrant.

Assault: Someone reported an assault and battery on Bancliffe Circle at 7:07 p.m.

Unleashed: Someone called to complain about an animal off leash on Otis Street at 1: 39 p.m.

Sunday, Dec. 3

Getting Rowdy: Just after midnight an officer was called to the American Legion Post 440 for a report of a problem they were having with a man in the members bar area. Police arrested Eric Benware, 45, homeless, for disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and then malicious destruction of property costing more than $250 "(urinating on a cell floor, etc)."

Drunk driving: Police arrested Michael Dallas, 57, of Stoughton near the corner of Grant Ave and Devon Road after being called for a disabled vehicle partially angled in the road with two flat tires. Police arrested Dallas for operating under the influence of intoxicating liquor 2nd offense.

Break in: Someone reported a car break in on Centre Street around 8:24 p.m.

Monday, Dec. 4

Shoplifter: At 2:33 p.m. someone called to report a shoplifter at Wegmans.

Bike gone: Someone reported their bike was stolen at the Day Middle School on Minot Place.

Suspicious: At least four people called throughout the day to report what they thought were suspicious people in the city, including on Jasset Street, Countryside Road, Gould Road and Fordham Road.

Tuesday, Dec. 5

Attempted break in: Someone called around 11:20 a.m. to report an attempted break in on Sheridan Street.
Bike thefts: Someone called to report a bike theft at the Newton Community Center on Waltham Street around 5 p.m. An hour later someone else called to report a bike theft on Bowen Street.

Stolen: Someone called to report a larceny at the Newton Housing Authority on Wyman Street.

Wednesday, Dec. 6

Really? At 6:11 a.m. a Dalby Street resident reported when he went out to his car in the morning, he noticed the driver’s side rims and tires were stolen from his Honda in his driveway.

Don't leave stuff in your car: A woman called police to report that while she was parked in the parking lot near the Boston Sports Club at 135 Wells Ave someone broke into her Merz, smashing out her passenger side window and grabbing her GIGI NewYork tote. Another woman who drove a Land Cruiser said her rear window was smashed and her Valentino handbag was missing.
