Check out the top-ranked pubs in your area, courtesy of Yelp.

NEWTON, MA - St. Patrick's Day is here once again, and Bay Staters know there's nothing quite like celebrating the holiday in the Commonwealth.

Sure, you could trek into Boston and take in a parade, but if you're looking to stay a little more local there's plenty of spots to take in the festivities.

Stop by these five Irish pubs tonight for some good food, great beer and even better company.

Dunn-Gaherin's - 344 Elliot St.

Established in 1991, owners Robert Dunn and Seana Gaherin offer standard bar fare with an Irish twist. Try the Dubliner burger or the eggplant fries, or if you're not hungry, sample the wide selection of draft and bottled beers, as well as a signature cocktail or two. Come on down to the cozy chalet, where the owners say they'd love to know your name.

What people are saying: "We certainly aren't experts in what an Irish bar 'should' be like, but based on our limited experience the bar area at least has done an incredible job maintaining the Irish look and feel." - Janelle D.

"This place is AMAZING! What a great find! Went there for lunch on Monday. We were greeted outside in the parking lot by one of the owners (Bobby Dunn), who parked our car and then led us to the bar." - David P.

"I chose this restaurant because of the eggplant fries (curious) and beer because my husband loves a good beer. We were not disappointed. The staff as well as the customers were very friendly." - Jane C.

O'Hara's Food & Spirits - 1185 Walnut St.

Family owned and operated in Newton Highlands for 31 years, the wood-accented interior, marked by a horseshoe bar and paned windows creates a welcoming atmosphere for all ages, including families and children. Marked by its dedication to bar fare, the pub has been featured in Boston Magazine’s Best of Boston, Boston Globe’s Dining Out and Cheap Eats, as well as on WCVB’s Chronicle and NECN’s TV Diner with Billy Costa.

What people are saying: "Staff is great, get the pork chops, they are fantastic. I would put their food up against any big name place that charges three times as much." - Bob I.

"I had the BBQ onion string burger, and it was huge, and so good. They also have a great selection of beers, including some special Sam Adams brews that you can't find many places, like the 26.2 Boston Marathon beer." - Perri V.

West Street Tavern & Restaurant - 7 West St.

Though it's relatively new on the scene, this joint has made quite the splash in the Nonantum neighborhood since opening in 2008. From its watch parties for sporting events, to its live music every Saturday, the pub has become a favorite of both blue and white collar crowds alike.

What people are saying: "Cool environment to hang out with friends and meet new ones. As far as Newton goes it is relaxed and fun. Not stuffy or yuppie." - Sherri M.

"I can't wait to go back. The Filet Mignon special was by far the BEST I have ever had.... So good, I plan to call and find out how often it is on the menu and when-I MUST have it again." - Sandra M.

Terry O'Reilly's Irish Pub - 45 Union St.

This local watering hole offers a number of special events throughout the week to keep its customers coming back. Don't miss your chance to belt out a Dropkick Murphys tune at karaoke tonight.

What people are saying: "Great neighborhood bar and more. Good local bands on weekends. Food I've had has been great as well." - Mike S.

"Great friendly service, Warren is awesome! Love the decor and the food! Definitely a frequent customer :)" - Danna S.

Paddy's - 95 Elm St.

Formerly the Troubadour Restaurant, the newly-rebranded Paddy's is named after the patriarch of the O'Hara clan, whose middle name is Patrick. Serving food made famous by O'Hara's in Newton Highlands and providing quality service, this up-and-coming spot is a can't-miss.

What people are saying: "Fantastic place. My wife and I decided to have lunch there on a Friday afternoon when we were free. We loved it. The food was excellent, so was the service." - Matt R.

"As you walk through you can hear the sound of live folk-type music that fills the pub and the ambiance is just like something out of Cheers." - Kevin L.
