Comm Ave. Wine & Spirits is Now Open

After some debate from the Newton Board of Aldermen and bit of building renovations, Comm Ave. Wine & Spirits is finally open for business.

Located at 543 Commonwealth Ave. in Newton Centre, Comm Ave. Wine & Spirits just opened its doors last Monday, May 7, according to one of the store employees. A sandwich sign out in front of the business also advertises its official "open" status.

The business advertises gourmet food, gift baskets, fine wine and craft beer.

According to minutes from an October 2011 Land Use Committee meeting, the owner, Anastasios Giannopoulos, also owns on Harvard Street in Brookline, which is a high-end package store that also specializes in gift baskets.

The liquor store's new space was formerly occupied by butcher shop Gordon & Alpernin, which recently scaled back its square footage.

In October 2011, the Board of Aldermen for the liquor store after some aldermen showed concern about the liquor store's location in a residential area as well as its proximity to Boston College. The board eventually passed the permit 22-0 on Nov. 7, 2011. 

Comm Ave. Wine & Spirits is open Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m. - 10 p.m. and Sunday, noon - 8 p.m. It does not have a website set up yet, but customers can reach the store at 617-795-9300.
