Crash Leads to OUI Arrest, Woman Changes Diaper, Watches Thief Steal Packages: Newton Police

NEWTON, MA -- The following are excerpts from the Newton police log.
Dec. 19
- Police responded to Underwood Ave for a report of a car accident involving a parked car. Police saw a black SUV in the middle of the road and parked crooked, blocking most of the road, with heavy front end and right side damage. A man was standing next to the vehicle, and had glassy, bloodshot eyes and he was unsteady on his feet. Everardo Saavedra, Jr., 34, 162 Summer St., Waltham, was arrested and charged with OUI, open alcoholic beverage in car
- Derek James Hume, 35, 122 Chapman St., Watertown, was arrested and charged on two active warrants
- Shortly after midnight, police were dispatched to HC Starck at 45 Industrial Place for a report of a suspicious person. The person was a former employee who was fired and was now back on the prooperty and in the process of leaving, driving toward Needham Street. The man, 25, from Westminster, was arrested and charged with breaking and entering at nighttime for a felony

- Police responded to the area of 134 Fairway Drive for a report of a stolen package form a homeownerâs front steps. She states that she was changing her daughterâs diaper when she noticed a dark-colored SUV pull up alongside the house, a person walk across the residenceâs lawn, take a package from the front steps, walk back to the dark colored SUV and take off toward Watertown Street.
- Police went to Revere PD to pick up Shawn T. Murphy, 34, 133 Kimball Ave,. Revere, for failure to appear
