Crawling Out During Vacation Week

Don't go crazy while the kids are home -- grab your gal pals and hit the town!

As I am sure you are well aware, next week is public school vacation week. Many of you will be going away and will have the opportunity for some rest and relaxation with your families. But for those of you who will be spending the week in Newton, trying desperately to keep bored kids entertained day after day, this week is anything but a vacation. So when evening rolls around and your hubby or partner comes home (or you can hire a sitter), here’s an idea that should help you keep your sanity.

The Pub Crawl is usually something associated with bachelor/bachelorette parties, but there’s no reason you can’t put together a Moms' Pub Crawl that spans every night of vacation week. Get together at least four of your mommy-friends so that you can each take on designated driver duty once, and hit a different one of these hot spots each weeknight for drinks, treats and a reminder that you do, in fact, still remember how to have fun.

(Newton Highlands) From the folks who brought you Tommy Doyle’s in West Newton comes the latest addition to the Newton pub scene.  The dining room is often filled with families, but you can bend an elbow and get your Guinness on in the lively bar.

(Newton Corner) This homey little spot is known for its creative assortment of wings and beers. But you can also get a great entrée and a nice glass of wine. NOTE: Cash only!

(Newton Center) You’ll want to hit Union Street on Wednesday night because that’s when you and your girl-posse can show off your unusual and useless knowledge at Stump Trivia Night. Order a pitcher of Blue Moon for a little liquid courage and don’t be ashamed that you can name all of the New Kids on the Block!

(Newton Upper Falls) The Prohibition-themed décor will remind you to be grateful that you can enjoy a libation freely now that you’re out and about. Indulge in a Biltmore toddy and some brownie sliders (you can work it off chasing the kids around tomorrow.)

(Nonantum) If Carrie Bradshaw and her friends left their sexy city for the Boston ‘burbs you might find them at West Street, drawn in by the dozen types of martinis and a wine list that would put any New York City restaurant to shame. Split the favorites-loaded West Street Appetizer Sampler and talk about shoes, men… or how glad you will be when vacation week is finally over!
