UPDATE: Crews Respond to 'Possible House Explosion'

Fire crews battled a 'stubborn fire' in an attic at a home on Placid street in Newton, MA, Monday morning.

Crews were called to a Newton, Massachusetts, home on Monday morning to reports of a “house explosion,” which turned out to be a heavy fire resulting in calling a third alarm.

By 10:30 a.m., fire departments continued to battle heavy fire and smoke that had started in the rear of the house.

UPDATES:

Noon: WCVB-TV reported that no one was home at the residence when the fire broke out. A dog that was home escaped when firefighters opened the door, and one firefighter sustained minor injuries. It is unclear how the fire started.

10:40 a.m.: Newton Fire reported that the fire was knocked down.

10:30 a.m.: A third alarm was called to the fire at this. Home is a single story ranch so attic access is through a small scuttle hole, reported the Newton Fire Department.

10:23 a.m.: A second alarm has been pulled, with fire crews on the scene of the 2.5 story house at 15 Placid Road. According to iAlerts1, there are heavy fire conditions through the roof, and multiple lines are in use.

10 a.m. Newton police and fire departments responded to a possible house explosion on Placid Street around 9:50 a.m. Monday morning, according to reports.

The reported explosion near 21 Placid St. resulted in a working fire with heavy smoke near the back of the one-and-a-half story house, according to a Tweet by Saugus firefighter Damian Drella.
