Curves in Newton to Close

Unless a new buyer decides to keep the location open, the Rumford Avenue fitness center has plans to close.

Auburndale will likely lose a fitness center later this month as the Newton  is planning to close its doors.

According to Curves Spokeswoman Becky Frusher, the Curves location on Rumford Avenue is currently in the process of closing, rather than renewing its lease.

"We absolutely hate to see any of our clubs close, and we especially feel for the members," Frusher said in an email to Newton Patch. "We hope that they’ll all be able to take advantage of another club so that they can continue their health/fitness routine."

According to Frusher, members will be able to transfer to another club, if they wish, at no charge. The transfer can be permanent or temporary until/if someone else buys the Curves location and reopens the club.

Frusher could not provide an exact closing date for the Rumford Avenue Curves.

The Newton Curves is still open at this time, but local Twitter user and Curves patron @claudiaascrizzi pointed out that the club will close this month unless a new buyer is found.

Newton Patch will be back with more information on this story as it becomes available.

Note: Newton Patch reached out to the Newton Curves on Monday, but as of publish time, we had not heard back. We will update this story with more information once we receive it.
