Driver in Newton Crash Identified, Has Spotty Record: Report

Bradford Casler, 55, of Newton had three previous accidents on his record and may have had medical issues.

NEWTON, MA - The Boston Globe has identified the driver of an SUV that crashed into a West Newton restaurant Tuesday night, killing two and wounding seven.

Bradford Casler, 55, of Newton was named by the newspaper based on records from the Registry of Motor Vehicles. His license was suspended after the accident Tuesday.

Law enforcement has not yet formally identified him as the driver.

Casler is a realtor who may have had medical issues, the Globe said. He survived Tuesday's crash and is being treated at an area hospital.

Two people died and seven were injured after an SUV, reported to be driven by Casler, failed to stop coming down Chestnut Street and smashed through the front of the Sweet Tomatoes on Washington Street.

Eleanor Miele, 57, and Gregory Morin, 32, were killed in the crash.

Miele's family members said Wednesday that she had stopped to pick up a pizza on her way to a church fundraiser.

Morin, also a customer, was a partner at the Latham & Watkins law firm.

Earlier Thursday Casey Vaughan, the manager of Sweet Tomatoes and one of the injured, was reported to be recovering from her wounds.
