Drunk Newton Man Faces Charges for Assaulting Officer

The following was supplied by the Newton Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

  • On March 16, police responded to the CVS Pharmacy on Walnut Street for a detained shoplifter. The employee explained that they were not going to file charges, but would be filing a no trespassing order against the shoplifter through the corporate office. The shoplifter was a female, 17, from Dorchester.
  • Along with the Fire Department and medics, Newton police responded to a Cherry Street address for a report of an intoxicated person. The caller said the drunk person was in and out of consciousness, but “could be violent.” Officers arrive to find that he had run out to the back of the house, and the caller was with him. As officers got to the front of the house, the caller asked them to hurry because she had been physically assaulted. Police went through the back door and saw a closet door smashed in. Hearing commotion coming from upstairs, officers headed up. Getting to the top, the woman who called came running down the hallway and the intoxicated man threw his right elbow in the direction of the officer. The officer deflected the swing, but his elbow struck the right side of his face near the jaw. The officer was transported to Newton Wellesley Hospital. Anthony Tramontozzi, 36, 26 Cherry St., Newton, was arrested on charges of assault and battery on a police officer and resisting arrest.
