Dual Directors Helm Newton's Department of Sustainability
The city recently named Ann Berwick co-director of sustainability, alongside Andy Savitz.
NEWTON, MA – As Newton continues its push to become more environmentally friendly, the city has named a second director of its Department of Sustainability.
Ann Berwick, an attorney with a background in energy, was recently appointed co-director of sustainability, alongside Andy Savitz. Berwick served as chairwoman of the Department of Utilities under Gov. Deval Patrick, undersecretary for energy and chief of the Environmental Protection Division in the Massachusetts AG's office and has also consulted and written about climate and energy issues, according to the Newton TAB.
In an interview with the TAB, Savitz said the pair will prioritize energy assessment programs such as Newton Energy Savers and the Newton Business Energy Savers, and plan to look into community aggregation.
