Art Exhibit Reception: The Rhythm of Chinese Painting by Mike Mei

Come to the Newton Free Library for the reception for the art exhibit that will be on display in the Main Hall this month, The Rhythm of Chinese Painting by Mike Mei.

In creating his paintings, Mike Mei wants to see the results of the Chinese brush meeting the Western brush. What happens when the lump of color meets the rich line and how does rhythm become part of his process? While rhythm is usually used to describe music, it’s always inside of his calligraphy and painting. His brush draws the outline and paints the color, but rhythm brings life to them and imbues them with a spirit.
