Author Talk - Midnight Ride, Industrial Dawn: Paul Revere and the Growth of American Enterprise by Robert Martello
Come to the Newton Free Library for an author talk with Robert Martello who will discuss his book Midnight Ride, Industrial Dawn, which sheds a new light on Paul Revere's post Revolution contributions to the rise of industrial America.
The book combines a biographical examination of Paul Revere with a probing study of our country as a new nation in an emerging business and technological climate. The book reveals another side of Revere's life, one that goes beyond his famous ride to warn the colonial militia of the British march on Lexington and Concord, to that of a transformational entrepreneur instrumental in the industrial revolution. Drawing on the Revere Family Papers, Martello explores Revere's vibrant career successes and failures, social networks, business practices and the ground-breaking metallurgical technologies he developed and employed as he shifted away from his craft as a silversmith toward larger, more involved manufacturing ventures such as iron working, bronze casting and copper sheet rolling. The talk will be followed by a book signing.
