Come to the Newton Free Library for an author talk with David Gessner, who will speak about his book My Green Manifesto in a presentation titiled Riding the Wild Charles: A Journey Toward a New, Wilder (and Funnier) Environmentalism.
In Gessne's new book, he describes his wild canoe trip down the Charles River with Dan Driscoll, a senior environmental planner for the state and a man who has made it his mission to green the banks of the Charles over the course of the last two decades. His book also makes a call for a new environmentalism that leaves behind its old, stuffy, superior ways and embraces the virtues of humor, common sense, and a new, living language. The talk is sponsored by Newton Conservators and will be followed by a book signing.
