  • Beethoven Piano Trio in D, Opus 70, No. 1, “Ghost”
  • Mendelsohnn Piano Trio No. 2 in C minor, Opus 66

The piano trio, which epitomized the Classical-Romantic tradition, opens our season on September 28 and 30 with two memorable examples, Beethoven’s “Ghost” Trio, Op. 70 No. 1 and Mendelssohn’s Trio in C minor, Op. 66. Beethoven’s masterpiece is an heroic affirmation of his unflagging powers in the face of his encroaching deafness, while Mendelssohn’s lyrical and dramatic statement is a further landmark in the evolution of this protean form.
