J Street Boston film series

Join J Street Boston for this two-part film series exploring historical and contemporary aspects of conflict in Israel, including a rare opportunity to see Israel’s first feature  film. Both films will be introduced by Larry Lowenthal, former longtime New England Director of the American Jewish Committee, who lived in Israel from 1970–1975 and served in the Israeli army. Screenings will be followed by an open audience discussion.

Films will be shown at 7PM at the West Newton Cinema, 1296 Washington St, W. Newton. Admission is $10 per film, $18 for both films. Tickets are available at the door or online (discount online only).

3/13: Hill 24 Doesn't Answer (Israel, 1955): Focused on Israel’s 1948 War of Independence, this film relates the story of four young Zionists assigned to defend strategic Hill 24 outside Jerusalem in order to maintain access to the besieged city. Directed by Thorold Dickinson. Hebrew with English subtitles.

3/20: For My Father (Israel, 2008): Strapped into a vest of explosives, young Palestinian Terek (Shredi Jabarin) enters Tel Aviv on a suicide mission to restore his father's honor. But a faulty fuse leaves him stranded among Israelis, and he begins to question his beliefs about his enemy. While he waits for a repair, he meets beautiful Keren (Hili Yalon). Directed by Dror Zahavi. Hebrew with English subtitles.
