Director Ingmar Bergman's autobiographical drama, the 1984 Best Foreign Film Oscar winner, depicts a family in crisis after its lively patriarch (Allan Edwall) dies unexpectedly, leaving his grieving wife (Ewa Froling) desperate to provide stability for her children.
