Promoting Positive Body Image in Your Teen

Does your high school student seem preoccupied with her appearance and weight? Do you wonder if your son’s exercise habits have become too intense?  Maybe you aren’t even sure if you should be worried—perhaps you simply are uncertain about what’s “normal” for teens these days.

Join us for this  informative workshop, “Promoting Positive Body Image in Your Teen.”  This presentation from the Multi Service Eating Disorders Association (MEDA), will offer techniques and strategies to help parents of high school aged adolescents foster the development of positive body image and a healthy relationship with food in their child. Participants will learn how genetics, media, peer pressure, external pressures (including sports, family and relationships), and stress can contribute to negative body image and disordered thought processes. Discussion will include how to start what can sometimes be a sensitive conversation with teens, how to combat negative messages, increase awareness and promote self-acceptance. This workshop is FREE and appropriate to parent of teens 14 and up.  We are also starting groups for teens and a Health Advisory Program.  For more information contact Susan Linn at susan@thenewtonpartnership.org or 617-796-9000.
