On Sunday, September 23, 2012, the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology (MSPP) will host the 11th Annual Lucero Memorial 5K Run/Walk at Newton City Hall. This is the first time the event will be held in Newton and will follow a stretch of the Boston Marathon route.
The Run will start at 10:30 am at Newton City Hall at 1000 Commonwealth Avenue following opening remarks and refreshments in the War Memorial Room. This year’s event includes a fundraising raffle with prizes like a Keurig coffee maker, iPods and more. Click here to register.
The Lucero Run/Walk was created as a memorial for Dr. Cynthia Lucero, a well-loved, community-oriented, MSPP graduate from Ecuador, who completed her doctoral degree days before the start of the 2002 Boston Marathon, during which she collapsed and died.

The Lucero Latino Mental Health Program, created in her name, trains MSPP’s graduate-level psychology students to provide culturally sensitive mental health care to the Latino population. Funds raised by the Run provide scholarships to help send the Latino Mental Health Program students to Ecuador and Costa Rica for an intensive four-week summer immersion program.
