
Join Youth pro Musica and artistic director Robert Barney for an engaging program of new music and seasonal favorites for the winter holidays on Sunday, December 11 at 4 PM at First Unitarian Society in Newton, 1326 Washington Streeet in West Newton.
Youth pro Musica welcomes guest organist David Carrier, Director of the Newton Choral Society. YpM presents the premiere performance of Die drei heilige Könige (The three Holy Kings), the latest work by Boston-based composer Kurt Leland. The audience will also be treated to the beloved Christmas Cantata ("Sinfonia Sacra") with organ and brass quartet. Other featured pieces on the program include "Bereite dich, Zion" from Johann Sebastian Bach's Christmas Oratorio and Dietrich Buxtehude's In Dulci Jubilo with violin accompaniment.
Tickets for this concert are available in advance at $12 for adults, $8 for seniors and students; they will also be available at the door for $15 adults, $10 seniors and students. Youth pro Musica: The Greater Boston Youth Chorus has introduced the joy and fellowship of choral singing to generations of young people. Weekly rehearsals provide vocal, ear and sight-singing training, choral discipline and exposure to music in foreign languages – cultivated in team-building atmosphere. YpM attracts members from all over Greater Boston, uniting young people from different communities based on their shared interest in music. Robert Barney was appointed Artistic Director of Youth pro Musica in September, 2009, the start of our 40th performance season. He maintains an active musical career as a choral director, performer, teacher, and church musician, and has taught voice, piano and organ for more than 30 years.
