Fire At $5 Million Chestnut Hill Mansion

A dog was home at the time of the fire, according to Newton Firefighters.

NEWTON, MA — The Newton Fire department responded to a report of a fire on Kingsbury Road where no one was home but a dog Monday evening.

Firefighters said that dog was out safe by 4:30 p.m. Three engine trucks, two ladder trucks a rescue crew and a C-2 crew initially responded to the fire, which came in around 4:20 p.m., according to the Newton Fire Department.

The home, a wood shingle Victorian with seven bedrooms and more than 6,000 square feet was built in 1895 and was last accessed at $5,329,700.

According to early police radio reports, the heavy fire was put out on the first floor by 4:44 p.m.
