A New Phil concert, a Mass for Franco Garcia and a chance to check out a flower and garden show.

1. Newtonville Books in Newton Centre. Newtonville Books is now open at its new location in Newton Centre at 10 Langley Road! The grand opening celebration will be held Thursday, April 5 at 7 p.m. Check out their revamped website for more info. 

2. Mass for Franco Garcia. Family and friends of will hold this morning at Saint Jude Church in Waltham (147 Main St.) The Mass will start at 10:30 a.m. 

3. Play Ball! Celebrate spring and the start of baseball season with the New Philharmonia Orchestra today at 3 p.m. The concert as well as an audience sing-a-long and Wally the Green Monster. The concert will be held at the and tickets are $15 for adults, $13 for seniors and $10 for students.

4. NewtonSERVES volunteer registration. Volunteer registration for of Service opens up online today. Volunteers can choose morning, afternoon or all-day projects to participate in during this year's day of service on April 29. Volunteer projects will be set up across the city at local parks, schools, libraries, and other non-profit, city, and neighborhood locations.

5. Spring garden show. Starting this weekend, the begins its flower and garden show. The show, which will run until May 15, includes stone sculptures, unique garden settings and floral arrangements in common areas throughout the mall.
