Five Things You Need to Know Today: July 2

An art reception, local baseball and info on a local restaurant that is closing for renovations this week.

1. American Legion baseball. The Newton baseball team (6-5) will face Hudson today in a game at Albemarle Field in Newton (250 Albemarle Road). The game will take place at 6 p.m.

2. Art exhibit reception. The will host a reception tonight for its latest exhibit, Relief Prints by Julia Talcott. The event kicks off tonight at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public. 

3. O'Hara's closed this week for renovations. in Newton Highlands will be closed this week for renovations. Owner Karl O'Hara told Patch last month that the restaurant plans to raise and replace the ceiling with new mahogany. In addition, the restaurant will add new lights, a new air conditioner, new TVs for the bar and they're going to "update that pink color a bit," O'Hara said. The restaurant is also planning to expand into the space formerly occupied by , O'Hara said, but will not be before the Board of Aldermen for those permits until July 10. Stay tuned for more info!

4. Group bike rides. Bike Newton hosts a  Monday evenings at 6 p.m. starting from the  and visiting a number of scenic points around the city. The ride, which will be between 7-10 miles, is open to cyclists of all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Anyone with questions can email nathan.aronow@verizon.net.
