Five Things You Need to Know Today: July 20

Electronics drop-off available, a foreign film and the farmers' market is back.

1. Farmers' market. The will set up shop at today from noon - 5 p.m. 

2. Feedback on open space. The city is looking for your feedback on a draft Recreation & Open Space Plan Update. A public hearing was held on Mon., July 9 and the public comment period will run until July 24. Comments should be addressed to Joyce Moss, chair of the Planning and Development Board, and can be sent in care of Juris Alksnitis, project coordinator, at jalksnitis@newtonma.gov or to 1000 Commonwealth Ave., Newton MA 02459.

3. Electronics drop-off. The offers special Friday and Saturday drop-offs for electronics once per month. The items can be dropped off today and tomorrow from 8 a.m. - noon. A list of accepted materials is available here.

4. Foreign film. Did you know the shows a foreign film every Friday afternoon at 1 p.m.? Today's film is Central Station, which tells the story of a Good Samaritan helping a child. 

5. Brick program. The Newton 9-11 Memorial Committee has . They have a limited number of bricks still available for engraving. To purchase a 1-3 line engraved brick for the walkway to the Memorial, call Sande Young at 617-527-1726 or email Ssyspts33@aol.com and she will send you an engraved brick form with directions.
