The Olympics kick off, the farmers' market is back and some music at L'Aroma this afternoon.

1. Music at L'Aroma. Local musician Sarah Fard will be performing jazz standards and originals today at in West Newton. Stop by for a cup of coffee and some relaxing music starting at 3 p.m.

5. The Olympics kick off today! Although some games started Wednesday, the opening ceremonies will be held today in London, officially launching the 2012 Summer Olympic games. 5. Susan G. Komen 3-Day for a Cure. Boston's Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk for a Cure will kick off today. According to minutes from a March public hearing of the Parks & Recreation Commission, the walk will be using two West Newton Parks as rest stops from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. ( and McGrath Park).
