Five Things You Need to Know Today: June 6

A new art exhibit opens, a rabies clinic and Newton North's Class of 2012 graduates.

1. Newton North Graduation.  will hold its 2012 graduation ceremony today at 's Conte Forum. . The commencement is set to start at 5 p.m. and seniors are expected to arrive at 4 p.m. to start lining up. Congratulations Class of 2012!

2. Rabies Clinic. A rabies vaccine clinic for dogs and cats will be held today from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at  in Newton Centre. The fee is $10 per pet. Owners must bring proof of previous vaccination for three-year rabies vaccines. This is the last clinic until the fall when clinics are scheduled for Sept. 10 and 12, 2012. If you have any questions, call the Health and Human Services Department at 617-796-1420.

3. Style swap. at the in Newton to benefit the Accelerated Cure Project. Those who are interested in participating can bring like-new, gently worn items of women’s clothing, handbags, shoes and accessories to contribute to the swap. Participants will receive a ticket for each item brought to the swap and tickets will be redeemed in the Swap Boutique. General admission is $20 and VIP admission is $35. The event starts at 5:30 p.m.

4. Exhibit opening. The will hold a reception tonight for its newest exhibit,  by Vani Sayeed. The reception starts at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public. 

5. Tournament update/games. In case you missed it: The Newton North softball team defeated Chelmsford 8-7 yesterday in extra innings and will go on to face Acton-Boxborough in the semifinal match. Meanwhile, the Newton North baseball team will also go on to face A-B in a semifinal match after defeating St. John's Prep Tuesday. As for today, the Newton South girls tennis team will face Masconomet at Masconomet today at 3:30 p.m.
