Five Things You Need to Know Today: March 31
A campaign kick-off, a free running clinic, a benefit concert and the library's annual Spring Fling.

1. Greer Tan Swiston Campaign Kick-Off. Ward 3 Alderman-at-Large Greer Tan Swiston . Swiston will launch her campaign by running across the district -- from Auburndale () to Newton Corner () -- starting at 9 a.m. Swiston will also make stops along the way to meet with voters.
2. Spring Fling. The will close at 4 p.m. today in preparation for its Spring Fling event. The annual fundraiser starts tonight at 6:30 p.m. and will feature a number of authors and books (list available here) including Leah Hager Cohen, Edith Pearlman, Tim Riley and Lou Ureneck. Proceeds from the event benefit the library. Tickets/donations range from $125-$2,500 and are available online.
3. The Tangled Loon at WLC. The will from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Cassarino-Brown will be on hand to speak about her new book The Tangled Loon as well as sign copies. 4. A Cappella for a Cure. will take place tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the . Tickets are $20 and will benefit the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life.
5. Free running clinic. Kids 8 years and older are welcome to this afternoon at . Newton South graduate and marathoner Leo Westebbe will join Charles d'Hemecourt from the Division of Sports Medicine Children's Hospital Boston for the clinic, which starts at 1 p.m. Kids and families should wear proper running attire and footwear.
