Five Things You Need to Know Today: May 5
A local yard sale, a block party and the Democratic State Committee holds a meeting.

1. Neighborhood block party. The Boston Chinese Evangelical Church is hosting in Newtonville today from 10 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. at the church at 218 Walnut St. There will be free food, outdoor/indoor games and activities for kids and adults.
2. Bowen Cooperative yard sale. The will take place today at St. John's Episcopal Church, 96 Otis St. in Newtonville, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. All proceeds support Bowen Cooperative preschool programs. for more yard sales in Newton this weekend.
3. Arts & crafts events. There are a couple of arts & crafts events going on in the city today. Teens are welcome to the today at 2:30 p.m. to make a comic book wallet. The free craft uses comic book pages and clear duct tape. Over at in West Newton, preschool directors Melissa Adler and Kat Horion will lead a craft where kids can decorate a frame for Mother's Day. 4. Do you have your tickets yet? The Newton North/Newton South annual Shakespeare production is coming up. Twelfth Night will run May 10-12 in Newton North's Little Theatre. Tickets are $8 and are available online now.
5. Democratic State Committee meeting. The Democratic State Committee will hold a meeting today at starting at 10 a.m. During the meeting, Democratic National Committee members and At-Large and PLEO delegates will be elected to the National Convention in Charlotte, NC. Joseph Kennedy III is expected to appear and greet committee members.
