Gas Line Reportedly Severed: Newton Fire Respond

NEWTON, MA — This afternoon someone called to report a gas leak on High Street. Fire department responded to 21 High Street where they reported at 2:28 p.m. a 1 inch gas line was severed and was going into the air, according to early radio reports.

Fire officials said a contractor ripped up a gas line and gas was venting into the atmosphere. Though not ideal, it's much less dangerous than if a gas line to a home was venting into a house.

The gas company was on the way, according to early reports.
